Description

Mickey's Amateurs Goofy Animation Drawing Sequence of 6 (Walt Disney, 1937). "We now have Bandmaster Goofy and his fifty-piece band!" Mickey and his band of non-professional musicians play live to a radio audience in this classic 1937 short, directed by the team of Pinto Colvig, Erdman Penner, and Walt Pfeiffer. Here's Goofy as he plays a solo with his one-man-band rendition of "There'll Be a Hot Time in the Old Town Tonight" on not just one instrument but a whole set of contraptions! In this wild sequence of six original 12 field animation drawings, we see him play (or about to play) a harmonica (drawing #52, approximate image size 10.5" x 7.5"); a squeezebox between his knees, which he'll play throughout (drawing #55A, 4" x 6"); a clarinet and squeezebox (drawing 115, 10.75" x 8"); a trumpet, and a marimba (drawing #177, 5.5" x 5.5"); a trombone (drawing 196A, 6.75" x 5.75"); and a flute (drawing 249, 9.25" x 7". In all of these, Goofy is playing cymbals with his posterior, and his mechanical method of changing from one instrument to another appears in all drawings. The art is in graphite and color pencils (mostly red) and is in Good to Very Good condition with some handling and edge wear, and age-related paper toning.
