Mickey Plays Papa Mickey Mouse Animation Drawings Sequence of 3 (Walt Disney, 1934). This Wilfred Jackson-directed short from 9/24/34 begins with a dark and stormy night. Mickey Mouse was in bed, reading the frightening tale of "The Cry in the Night" to Pluto. Meanwhile, outside their home, a hooded figure approaches, leaving a basket with a baby in it along with an attached note which read, "Please give little Elmer a good home. He ain't much trouble." This sequence of images from the cartoon short Mickey Plays Papa can be seen starting at the 0:47 mark. These are nice large images of Mickey measuring 6.5" and rendered in graphite and colored pencil on 12 field 2-peghole animation paper. Disney Legend Inductee and one of "Walt's Nine Old Men," Ward Kimball worked as an inbetweener in this short. He joined Disney in April just five months before Mickey Plays Papa was released on September 29, 1934, making this one of his earliest projects. These nicely-detailed drawings of Mickey and his book (note the title is actually on the back cover instead of front) are numbered 5A/3½ F (image size 6" x 6.25"), #50 (6" x 6.25"), and #75 (5.75" x 6"). This is actual working production art with very light paper toning, reinforced pegholes, and minor handling; condition is Very Good.
