    Description

Mickey Mouse World War II Insignia Art by Hank Porter (Walt Disney, c. 1940s). During World War II, Donald Duck became Disney's biggest star attraction. Mickey Mouse starred in only three shorts during the war, and appeared on a scant 37 WWII insignias (far fewer that Donald, Goofy, or Pluto). This piece, created by Hank Porter for the US Navy Albina Engine and Machine Works, is the first Mickey insignia we've offered. It was for use in a Navy ship building and repair facility in Portland, Oregon that specialized in building fuel ships. A similar image can be seen on page 138 in the Japanese book, Characters of Military. This piece has a great 9" image in graphite, with nice orange and blue highlights on trimmed onionskin paper. Minor handling. Fine condition.
