Mickey Mouse Advertising Illustration Original Art (Walt Disney, c. 1929-30). This early original Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse pen and ink with gray wash on paper artwork was done for the Lever Company/Sunlight Soap in London, prior to the company merging in late 1930 and changing the company's name. Mickey and Minnie have the "double brow" which was only used in in 1929-30. The Lever Brothers were a soap manufacturing company that have produced a household soap called Sunlight since 1884. In 1930, the Lever Brothers merged with Dutch Producer Margarine Unie and created one of the first big conglomerates around the world, Unilever. Lever is mentioned on the Tennis Club Flag above the Ping Pong Table and Sunlight is mentioned on the box holding up the ping pong table. Table tennis had its origin in England where the first World Championship was held in London in 1926. The art comes from a former executive of the Unilever Company in Rotterdam, Holland. The great images of Mickey and Minnie are 4" each. Mickey has his pie-slice eye and Minnie has her Flower Hat on! Artwork looks to possibly be from the hand of Floyd Gottfredson or Win Smith, who both were inking Mickey comic strips at this time. Slight tear on top left comer, nowhere near artwork. What an early piece of Disney Studio art and a great example of the early power of Mickey Mouse, globally! Matted with an opening of 20" x 8", and framed with Plexiglas for an overall size of 29.5" x 17". A nice large piece of extremely early Mickey Mouse art! Fine condition.
