Mickey in Arabia Mickey and Minnie Mouse Animation Drawing (Walt Disney, 1932). On vacation in the Arabian Desert, Mickey and Minnie, traveling by camelback, have just arrived in the local marketplace. Their lanky camel wastes no time in seeking out a barrel of beer - and proceeds to drink itself silly. Having paused for a moment to take it all in, they decide to play "tourist" for a bit - until Minnie is kidnapped by an amorous sheik, who looks suspiciously similar to Peg-leg Pete! Directed by Wilfred Jackson, this short was released to theaters on July 18, 1932, and features the animation of several future Disney legends, Les Clark and Clyde Geronomi among them. This drawing can be seen at the 1:34 point in the film; Mickey tugs on the bridle and gives an "Ally Oop!" - and the camel lowers for them both to dismount. The mere fact that full-body depictions of multiple characters are featured together in one drawing makes this one a rarity. Large image area measures roughly 4.5" x 5.5". Mickey and Minnie ride in the camel's howdah, with Mickey holding the reins. Both are wide-eyed and eager to go sightseeing. The gangly camel, complete with license plates reading "7-11", stands slack-jawed, awaiting commands. All are rendered in graphite on 12 field 2-peghole animation paper. Drawing is in Fine condition.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
