Mary Blair Song of the South Brer Frog and Brer Rabbit Concept Art (Walt Disney, 1946). John Canemaker writes in the new edition of his book on Mary Blair, Magic, Color, Flair -- The World of Mary Blair, "During the 1940s, Mary Blair was called upon to produce inspiration sketches for live action films that melded with cartoons, such as Song of the South." This piece of original concept art is a prime example of this work. As Brer Rabbit is on his way to meet the Tar Baby, Brer Frog is saying, "Mind out, Brer Rabbit, better mend yo' ways. You's headin' for trouble one o' these days!" The art is in tempera and watercolor on paperboard, with an approximate image area of 9" x 6.5". The 10" x 8" board has pin holes in the corners, and has staining in the outer borders, but the image is in Fine condition. It is very hard-to-find Mary Blair hand-painted artwork from this film!
