    Description

Mary Blair - Christmas Card Illustration Original Art (c. 1950s). In 1953, Mary Blair left the Disney Studios amicably, and began a highly successful career in New York as a freelance designer and illustrator in many different creative mediums and outlets. One of her assignments was in the design of Christmas cards. This lot is an original Mary Blair painting on folded paper for a family Christmas card. You can see samples of her Christmas cards on page 155 in John Canemaker's book Magic, Color, Flair: The World of Mary Blair. They showcase an angel that is almost identical to the ones in this concept painting. It is on paper measuring 18" x 20", and it reads, "Merry Christmas -- Handle With Care" and is signed "From Mary and Lee." The paper has a fold crease, and some tape on the border. Minor handling and edge wear. Good condition. From the Mary Blair Family Trust Archives.
