Mary Blair - Children's Book Specialty Illustration (c. 1950s). After Mary Blair left Disney in 1953, she began a highly successful career in New York. One of her biggest accomplishments was her work with Little Golden Books. Her artwork graced children's books such as I Can Fly, Baby's House, and The Little Golden Book of Verses, to name a few. This is a painting done in the style of her Little Golden Book illustrations. It may have been a painted for a Little Golden Book project and not used, or simply a gift painting. It is one of the largest single Mary Blair paintings we have come across, created in gouache on illustration board measuring 22" x 15", with painted area of 18" x 11". The bottom border is inscribed "To Curtis", and the painting is signed "Mary Blair" in bottom right. A very rare look into her Little Golden Book-style artwork. Minor handling and edge wear; Fine overall condition.
