Lonesome Ghosts Donald Duck Animation Drawing (Walt Disney, 1937).
"What's the big idea? Who did that? Who did that?" One of many in Mickey, Donald, and Pluto's unofficial "odd jobs" series made throughout the late 1930s and early 1940s, this outing has the trio in charge of their own ghost hunting service, the Ajax Ghost Exterminators. The fellas are contacted over the phone by a group of four bored ghosts in an abandoned house; they plan to have a little fun with the ghost hunters after luring them over for a "job." The ghosts devise many clever tricks to bedevil the poor investigators - at one point, Goofy and a ghost even do a classic Marx Brothers routine in a mirror! Ultimately, the trio end up scaring the ghosts away - not through their skill, but through their incompetence! Makes no difference to the ghost hunters, though - as they are suitably proud of a job well done. The short was released on December 24, 1937 - three days after the premiere of Snow White. Longtime studio director Burt Gillet directs, and Disney greats Milt Kahl and Art Babbit both contributed animation to the film. A special translucent paint that would adhere to the cels was developed especially for use within this film - in order to give the ghosts a spooky, otherworldly appearance. This particular drawing can be seen near the 4:37 point in the film. This is a perfect drawing for any Donald fan; the cartoon is a favorite among audiences - and any piece in which we get to see Donald losing his temper is always a plus. Donald assumes his classic old-fashioned boxing stance after being smacked on the behind by a vanishing ghost. The image area measures 3.5" x 4" and is rendered in graphite, with colored pencil highlights for his shadow and "motion blur" effects. The drawing is made on 12 field animation paper. It has been matted and framed under Plexiglass, with a 12" x 9" mat opening in a 18" x 15" frame. Frame is sold as-is. Drawing is in Fine condition.
