Little Red Walking Hood Animation Drawings Sequence of 3 (Warner Brothers, 1937).
"You know how it is, don't you girls?" says Red in a Katharine Hepburn/Bette Davis style as she walks down the street, trying to ignore the advances of the Wolf who has pulled up alongside her in a sleek automobile. Here are three rare full-figure drawings of Little Red from this Fred "Tex" Avery-directed short, which was released on 11/6/37. Little Red Walking Hood was Avery's first parody of a classic children's story, featuring the second appearance of Egghead (who would eventually evolve into Elmer Fudd. Side note: this short may give us a clue as to the "Elmer" name; when the Wolf knocks on Granny's door, his "I hope, I hope, I hope" line imitates Elmer Blurt, at the time a very popular radio comic character from The Al Pearce Show). These three original 12 field animation drawings are from the Wolf's attempt to pick Red up, and can be seen at the 2: 02 (drawing #181), 2:04 (drawing #205) and 2:05 (drawing #215). The art is in graphite on 12 field 2-peghole paper with added red pencil highlights on the first two, and with red and yellow over loose blue pencil on the last. Figure sizes are 6"-6.5". Any production artwork from Tex Avery's Merrie Melodies shorts are very tough to find... and here's a sequence of three! Condition is Very Good with edge wear and minor paper toning.
