Lil Hugo and Diggity Dog Proposal Storyboard and Model Sheet Group (Volney Productions, 1959). This is a real lot for animation historians, an animation museum, or anyone interested in something important and rare in animation. Volney L. White (1907 - 1966) began working at the now largely forgotten Romer Grey Pictures in 1930 before moving over to Warner Brothers, animating in the Norman McCabe unit on early B&W Looney Tunes shorts. He eventually directed seven shorts from 1940-41. He also received a small credit for one episode of Crusader Rabbit in 1950. This is a rare look into his own efforts to launch a cartoon series. Most likely this was done with thoughts of a television series similar to Crusader Rabbit. This project was well thought-out and this is the entire package of a cartoon character and series called Lil Hugo and Diggity Dog. The lot is the entire marketing pitch, made up of many 16" x 12" sheets with different sections. The Model Sheet section has nine model sheets of assorted characters of the show. All read at bottom copyright 1959 Volney L. White. This is for a cartoon series that would have been called Variety Cartoons. Some of the titles in the storyboard presentation are "Ghosts of Maliaboo," "Guardin' the Garden," "The Ornery Lobster," "Moonsters and Monsters," and "Who Dunit." There are sixty-one 16" x 12" hardback pages of typed dialogue and small print storyboards of 2" x 2" images above dialogue and scene numbers. The package also has four gouache 5" x 7" color storyboards plus eight hand-painted Color Model cels on hand-painted backgrounds for many of the proposed cartoons. All have minor handling and paint loss and are matted. These plans to make a cartoon brand in 1959 represent a real treasure trove for animation lovers! Condition ranges from Good to Fine.
