Description
Lady and the Tramp Lady Original Animation Drawing (Walt Disney, 1955). "What makes Jim Dear and Darling act this way?" The adorable Lady is always pleased to see Jim Dear as shown in this original animation drawing but is quickly left confused as he doesn't even notice her because he is attending to his newborn baby. Walt Disney's Lady and the Tramp is a delightful tale of an uptown cocker spaniel dog whose life is turned upside down with the arrival of a newborn baby in her human family but then meets a streetwise downtown mutt who knows a thing or two about the realities of life as a dog. The animated romance film was theatrically released on 6/22/1955 marking this year as its 70th Anniversary! It's a uniquely timed item for any Disney animation enthusiast to add to their collection. Lady was animated by some of Disney's "Nine Old Men", including Ollie Johnston (1912-2008), Frank Thomas (1912-2004), and Milt Kahl (1909-1987), and was inspired by writer Joe Grant's (1908-2005) own Springer Spaniel named Lady. This acknowledgement of Joe Grant' involvement went unnoticed until the release of the 2006 Platinum Edition of Lady and the Tramp. Barbara Luddy (1908-1979) voiced the titular character Lady who also provided her talents for other Disney films such as Sleeping Beauty, One Hundred and One Dalmatians, and Winnie the Pooh. The fluid hand drawn image can be seen at 28:39 timestamp of the feature film where Lady is excitedly bouncing as Jim Dear walks right past her as he whistles. The image of Lady measures 3.5" x 4.25" and is drawn on to a 3-peg hole animation paper that measures 15.5" x 12.5". The drawing is noted 'C-556' in both the lower corner and is skillfully rendered in color pencil and graphite. The overall condition is Very Good with very light age-related toning, missing tiny corner edge, and handling wear and edge wear.Auction Info
