DescriptionLady and the Tramp Animation Drawing (Walt Disney, 1955).
"Ever chase chickens?" Here is an absolutely enormous drawing of the titular Tramp form Disney's 1955 film. This cheeky stray teaches the sheltered and privileged dogs of "Snob Hill" that you can't always judge a book by its cover. A former playboy, Tramp is indeed a bit rough around the edges, but ultimately comes through when the prim cocker spaniel, Lady, and "her" new baby need him the most. To this day, the film holds a prominent place in the nostalgic memories of American moviegoers - of its many iconic scenes, the romantic spaghetti dinner ("Bella Notte") is the most immediately recognizable. This was the first animated feature to be photographed in the wide-screen CinemaScope process; it was a challenge for animators initially to adapt to the wider frame size, especially to stage their scenes accordingly. However, the results are marvelous and the film represents the studio at the height of its powers. Following its series of successful live-action remakes, Disney is set to release a new version of Lady and the Tramp in November of 2019 as well, sure to bring renewed interest in the classic film. Tramp measures an astounding 12" x 7" in this gorgeous full-body drawing, with a great facial expression. It can be seen in the "chicken chasing" scene, in which Tramp can't resist the urge to (good-naturedly) frighten a flock of overweight, lazy hens. He goads Lady into joining him - and when they try to escape, she is caught by the dogcatcher and taken to the pound. Tramp is rendered here in graphite and colored pencil on 16 field 3-peghole animation paper. Drawing has noticeable toning and creasing; in Good condition.
