Description

Krazy Kat and Ignatz Mouse Specialty Drawing by Grim Natwick (Mintz/Krazy Kat Studio, 1926). George Herriman's classic newspaper comic strip Krazy Kat was beloved by a few intellectuals and publishing giant William Hearst. It was turned into a series of animated cartoons several times in the silent era, but the version considered most faithful to the comic strip version was produced in New York in the late 1920s by Bob Nolan's Krazy Kat Studio. The shorts were distributed by Charles Mintz, with animation by Grim Natwick, Jack Carr, George Hill, Robert Buck, and Sam Stimson. Here's a wonderful ink on paper drawing of Krazy playing the banjo and singing "How Dry We Are!" along with Ignatz, by animation legend Grim Natwick (1890 - 1990). After his work on Krazy Kat, Grim moved on to the Fleischer Studio, where he designed and animated Betty Boop. Grim wrote "To my friend J. F. M." in the lower left, along with his name and the year '26. The art is matted with an opening of approximately 9" x 11.5", with an overall mat size of 16" x 20". There are two old fold creases in the paper, which also has some age-related toning; condition is Good to Very Good.
