June Foray Lunch Chuck Jones Illustration (1981). In June Foray's (1917 - 2017) autobiography entitled Did You Grow Up with Me Too? - The Autobiography of June Foray, chapter seven titled "Chuck Who" details her long friendship with legendary Warner Brothers director Chuck Jones (1912 - 2002). She writes "Ours was a pure, enduring, and unadulterated friendship." This lot is an original Chuck Jones piece of artwork that he titled "June Foray Lunch". June writes, "We were meeting for lunch to discuss. I don't remember what. When I arrived at the restaurant, Chuck was sitting alone there drawing. Although I'm naked in the picture, Chuck never saw me that way, at least in reality. Still it's a pretty good likeness of me when I was young. The sign between us reads "June Foray Lunch". The writing at the bottom says "to June. It's Jones in Jun-uary. Love Chuck". I brought this sketch and my answer to him at his birthday party on the 26th of September 1981 and on September 17, 1997, on his 85th birthday. The audience enjoyed it. And here's what I wrote: One time when we were working, I remember you said, "You're such a lovely lady, and we've never been to bed... " I really didn't need a witty repartee, My homogenous answer was, "You never asked me". This point in time, ah, more the pity. It probably won't occur. We're not the man and woman, Chuck, we used to think we were." The artwork is pictured on page 91 of her book. This is that actual Chuck Jones original "June Foray Lunch" artwork, drawn in graphite on 3-peghole animation paper. It is framed with a mat opening of 9" x 11.5", in an overall frame of 13" x 17". This extraordinary piece of animation history is signed and dedicated to June by Chuck Jones. A copy of Chuck Jones' handwritten, two-page tribute to June " A Foray into Romance" is included. The frame is in need of repair, otherwise condition is Very Good. From the June Foray Collection.
