Description
Jiminy Cricket Practice Model Sheet by Willis Pyle (Walt Disney, c. 1940s). "I dub you Pinocchio's conscience, lord high keeper of the knowledge of right and wrong, counselor in moments of high temptation, and guide along the straight and narrow path. Arise, Sir Jiminy Cricket." Jiminy was appointed Pinocchio's official conscience by the Blue Fairy, in hopes that he could guide Pinocchio on his journey to become a real boy. Offered in this lot is a rare practice model sheet for Jiminy Cricket by Willis Pyle (1914 - 2016). Mr. Pyle was a long-time animator at the Walt Disney Studios. His credits include Pinocchio, Fantasia, and Bambi. Interestingly, Willis Pyle is the brother of Denver Pyle, known for his role as Uncle Jesse on the television series, The Dukes of Hazzard. Model sheets are required when multiple artists are involved in an animated film or short to help maintain continuity in characters from one scene to the next. In this piece we see Mr. Pyle working on side views of Jiminy in a standing and squatting pose. The art was rendered in graphite on 12 field, 5-peghole animation paper and enclosed in a glass-fronted frame of 19" x 17.5". The frame has a mat opening of 11.5" x 9.75". Frame sold as-is. This is a wonderful piece of rare animation art and would be a nice addition to any animation collection. Drawing condition is Very Good.More information about Walt Disney Studios - Pinocchio.
