Description

How an Animated Film is Made 41" x 27" Comic Strip for "The Moving Image" Animation Museum Tour Signed by Virgil "Vip" Partch Group of 2 (Museum Graphics, 1980). "Animation can be achieved in many ways. Described here is the most traditional method, and the steps detailed are closest to those the big studios used to create the classic animated films of the 1930s and 1940s," reads this fantastic two-page original comic by the prolific American gag cartoonist Virgil "Vip" Partch (1916 - 1984). Titled How an Animated Film is Made, this one-of-a-kind original work was created for the Museum Graphics "Moving Image" animation museum tour which ran from 1980 to 1984. The tour exhibited at over 25 museums, including the San Jose Museum of Art, the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of Design, the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, to name only a few. This strip, which comprehensively details the traditional process of animation, depicts animators creating an early Oswald the Lucky Rabbit cartoon. It is a popular piece from which prints were created and sold, and the strip has been published in books and magazines since its creation in 1980. This is the rare published original! Rendered masterfully in ink on Bristol by the unmistakable hand of "Vip." Initially working as an animator for Walt Disney in the 30s and 40s, Virgil Partch made a name for himself as a gag cartoonist for large-circulation magazines, including Collier's, The New Yorker, Playboy, and True. He is also well known for his syndicated comic strips Big George and The Captain's Gig. A unique entry in the artist's career, these museum cartoons are massive, presented in two Plexiglas frames measuring a whopping 41.25" x 27". All frames are sold as-is. Photos are not representative of actual frame condition. Well preserved in the frame, these original pieces show minimal handling, and the condition is Fine.
