Description

Horton Hears a Who! Layout Drawing by Maurice Noble (MGM, 1970). "On the 15th of May, in the Jungle of Nool, in the heat of the day, in the cool of the pool. He was splashing, enjoying the jungle's great joys." The astounding artistic skills of the great Maurice Noble (1911 - 2001) are at full display in this lot with a fantastic layout drawing from one of the first scenes in the 1970 special Horton Hears a Who! featuring our titular elephant bathing in the Jungle of Nool. Widely known for his outstanding work as production designer and background artist, Noble's long list of credits includes productions like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, What's Opera, Doc?, and How the Grinch Stole Christmas, among many more. As wonderful as it is rare, this layout drawing was created by Noble to plan for the scene at the 1:00 mark of the classic cartoon, rendering in artist markers and colored pencils the lush Jungle of Nool on 16-field animation paper, noted in the top right corner as "Seq. I Scene "A"." This lot is offered on a 20" x 16" mat with a 15.5" x 11.5" mat opening, sold as is. The lot presents some faint fold creases and light handling and edge wear from production. Overall, this layout drawing is in Very Good condition, with minor handling and edge wear from production.
