Description

Hold the Lion, Please Bugs Bunny Animation Drawing (Warner Brothers, 1942). Bugs Bunny's tenth official short finds him chased by a somewhat clueless and washed-up older lion named Leo ("Nuthin' but a has-been," says a giraffe about him at the beginning of the short). It was directed by Chuck Jones, and released to theaters on 6/6/1942. Turns out Leo is henpecked, too -- his wife calls Bugs, who hands the phone to this sheepish lion ("But listen, Hortense!"). This rare original 12 field 2-peghole animation drawing of Bugs taking the call while idly plucking a blade of grass can be found in the short at the 7:11 mark when viewed on HBO Max. Art is in graphite with red pencil; note the "tips" of Bugs' ears here, which were colored white in some early shorts (they're gray in the cartoon, though). Image size is 7.75" x 8.25". The drawing is matted with an opening of 11.75" x 9.25", and is framed using Plexiglas for an overall size of 22.75" x 23.125" x 1.5". Frame is sold as-is. Art condition is Very Good, with minor handling wear, and a small stain along the upper left side of the paper, away from the image.
