Description

Her Honor the Mare Popeye Animation Drawing (Famous Studios, 1943). Here is a great Popeye production drawing from Her Honor the Mare. Created in 1943 by Famous Studios, Her Honor the Mare is Popeye's first standard cartoon to be produced in color and the 123rd in the overall series. While Fleischer Studios produced three color Popeye films in the 1930s, those were double-length Color Specials as opposed to standard cartoons, making this a RARE prized piece of animation art. In the cartoon Pipeye, Peepeye, Poopeye and Pupeye find a horse that is so frail that he was rejected by the glue factory. They bring it home where they ask Popeye if they can keep it in the house, but the sailorman is not at all amused by the horse's doglike attitude. This is a big image nicely centered in the piece, almost consuming the entire sheet with an image area of 8.5" x 9". The artwork was rendered in graphite over red pencil on 12 field animation paper. Noted as 86 in the lower right. Edge wear with mild age-related toning and a corner fold/crease in the lower left. Overall condition of this vintage artwork is Very Good.
