DescriptionHawaiian Holiday Group of 6 Donald Duck Animation Drawings (Walt Disney, 1937). This Hawaiian vacation-themed short was released on September 24, 1937. It was directed by Ben Sharpsteen and featured animation by Disney greats Shamus Culhane as well as Woolie Reitherman. This was the first Disney cartoon to be released by RKO after Disney and United Artists decided to part ways. This was also one of only a handful of shorts to feature the "Fabulous Five" all together in one cartoon - Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, and Pluto are all gathered together on the beach for some fun and sun. Minnie has been hula dancing to the accompaniment of Mickey's slide guitar and Donald's ukulele - however, Donald decides to steal the show, and performs his own rendition of a hula girl dance. He catches his grass skirt on fire and quickly dunks his behind in a shallow tide pool. A persistent starfish decides to attach itself to Donald's bottom. Donald angrily pulls it off - and flings it back toward the sea. The first four drawings depict Donald the "wind up" and the "pitch" - and the remaining two depict the meddlesome mollusk after it is airborne. Beautiful full-figure drawings of Donald depict him following through in a complete motion - very unusual. Donald is rendered in graphite and colored pencil. The drawings also feature some effects animation in the water ripples and the reflective light. The sequence is drawn on 12 field 5-peghole animation paper. In an unusual departure for the Disney Studio, the pegholes are on the upper edge of the paper. There is light creasing and toning present (image area is unaffected). In Very Good condition.
