Have You Got Any Castles? Animation Drawings Sequence of 3 (Warner Brothers, 1938). This early Warner Brothers short opens with a Town Crier introducing classic book titles on a large bookshelf. A different musical number ensues with each title as the characters step out from the covers. This short released on 6/25/38 was co-directed by Frank Tashlin and Friz Freleng. This sequence of three animation drawings feature Victor McLaglen as he stepped out of "The Informer" just as the Three Musketeers have ridden past. The actor won an Academy Award in 1935 for his role in the film version of this book. You can see these images around the 6:08 mark into the cartoon. All of the images measure approximately 7" tall and are rendered in graphite and red pencil on 12 field 2-peghole animation paper. They were the work of Robert McKimson (1910 - 1977) who went on to become one of Warner Brothers' top animation directors. Bottom right corner of each sheet is numbered and are in sequence as K-10, K-18 and K-20. Production art from Warner Brothers is rare, especially art dating back to the '30s. The group shows minor handling and condition is Very Good.
