Description
Harrison Ellenshaw "Spring Light" Original Acrylic on Canvas (c. 2000s). An impressive original painting titled "Spring Light" by renown Hollywood visual effects artists, fine art painter, and the son of a Disney Legend, Harrison Ellenshaw. Like many sons growing up in the shadow of a famous father they feel that they want to carve out their own path in life. "That was me!", says Harrison Ellenshaw, son of Disney Legend and acclaimed matte painter Peter Ellenshaw. "I had grown up fascinated by my father's painting" Harrison says, "I found both his passion and his incredible talent intimidating. I was convinced I could never live up to any of it." Harrison began his career at the Disney Studios before joining George Lucas' effects studio, Industrial Light and Magic. There he would forge his own path, painting matte visual effects for Star Wars (1977) and The Empire Strikes Back (1980). He would eventually return to Disney as a miniature effects creator on The Black Hole (1979) for which he would receive an Academy Award® nomination. He would go on to serve as associate producer and visual effects supervisor on TRON (1982) and ultimately become head of Disney's effects unit, Buena Vista Visual Effects. Harrison worked again with George Lucas but this time it was for a 3-D attraction at Disneyland, Captain EO, starring Michael Jackson. After he completed his work on Ghost (1990), Harrison would create the gorgeous matte paintings for Warren Beatty's Dick Tracy. "In Dick Tracy" Harrison notes, "the matte paintings were visually the star of that film." In 2016 Harrison was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Art Directors' Guild for his contributions to the entertainment industry as a matte painter and visual effects pioneer. This stunning Harrison Ellenshaw original was rendered in acrylic on stretched 30" x 36" canvas and signed in paint by the artist. In Very Good condition. From the Peter and Harrison Ellenshaw Family Archive.
