    Description

Hank Porter - WWII Disney USS Pompon Submarine Insignia (Walt Disney, c. 1940s). Outstanding preliminary World War II Insignia artwork done for the USS Pompon Submarine unit. Artwork is by Hank Porter, longtime head of Disney Publicity Art and Head of Disney's Insignia Art unit. A great drawing on trimmed animation paper of 8". Graphite with nice blue and red highlights. The USS Pompon was a Gato-class submarine, named for the Pompon, an American fish of the Anisot family. The ship saw action in the Pacific. Disney had few fish characters, so the artists had to use plenty of imagination for the many such designs requested by the Navy -- especially for submarines. A great image. In Fine condition.
