Description

Hank Porter The Reluctant Dragon "How to Ride a Horse" Goofy and Percy Publicity Drawing (Walt Disney, 1941). Goofy is in trouble now! The hilarious 12 field graphite with color pencil publicity drawing presented here was created by Hank Porter (1900 - 1950) for the "How to Ride a Horse" segment of the 1941 feature film The Reluctant Dragon. The segment was the first in Goofy's "How To" series and was originally only going to be part of the film, but Disney made it into its own short which was released to theaters on 2/24/1950. Porter worked as a Disney publicity artist from 1936 to 1950 where he created Sunday page comic art for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and Pinocchio as well as artwork for Disney shorts in Good Housekeeping, incredible insignia designs during Word War II, and was one of the first authorized to sign Disney's name for him on fan letters and cards. Porter illustrates just how well he could capture movement and Goofy's undeniable charm here has Goofy has a rough time with Percy, who tosses our favorite goof right off his back. At about 10.5'' x 8'' and initialed by Porter in the lower right, the lot is in Very Good condition with light edge and handling wear, tape at the edges, and faint age-related toning.
