    Description

Gertie the Dinosaur Animation Drawing (Winsor McCay, 1914). Original pen and ink production artwork directly from the hand of Winsor McCay, used to create this landmark animated short. Gertie was animation's first superstar and McCay drew each individual scene by hand on rice paper. This was before the use of nitrate cels. At this time, his technique was considered state of the art. This is one of best Gerties we have seen with a great 5" dead-on front pose with a smiling face. (Notice the tree stump to her right; she'll soon eat it). Matted with an opening size of 8" x 6", and framed with Plexiglas. Also known as Gertie the Trained Dinosaur, this short was ranked #6 in Jerry Beck's book The 50 Greatest Cartoons. A piece of animation history! Fine condition.
