    Description

Gertie the Dinosaur Animation Drawing (Winsor McCay, 1914). Original pen and ink artwork from the hand of Winsor McCay, used to create the landmark animated short. Gertie was animation's first superstar, and McCay drew each individual scene by hand, on rice paper, before the use of acetate or nitrate cels began, which at the time was considered state-of-the-art production. This is production drawing #11, mounted on board and matted with an image area of 8" x 6" (actual paper size is approximately 7" x 9"). This is a superb, large image of Gertie with her face visible in an exceptionally large 5" pose. Also known as "Gertie the Trained Dinosaur," this cartoon was ranked #6 in in Jerry Beck's book The 50 Greatest Cartoons. A sheer piece of animation history! Very Good condition with very minor stains.
