Fred Moore - Hand-Drawn Christmas Cards Group of 4 (Walt Disney, c. 1940s-early 1950s). Ah, Fred Moore. Such an amazing talent. Born in 1911, Fred was employed at the Disney Studios from 1930 to 1946, and after a brief sojourn with Walter Lantz, back to Disney from 1948 until his untimely death in 1952. He was well-known at the Disney Studios for his "Freddy Moore Girls" drawings, often nudes but occasionally children. These drawings are highly prized today and are quite rare, but here's something we suspect is even harder to find than a Freddy's Girl -- a set of four HAND-DRAWN Christmas Cards from Fred and his wife Virginia. Each includes a charming original drawing of a child, three of which are marked "Merry Xmas." The cards, which measure approximately 4.75" x 5.75" are signed as "Fred Virginia Moore," "Fred and Virginia Moore," "Mr. and Mrs. Moore," and "Fred and Virginia." The art is in ink and watercolor; with the exception of one featuring a girl holding a present (the only one NOT marked Merry Xmas), the drawings do not reflect the holiday, making them great stand-alone pieces. These were given to Fred's Disney Studios co-worker and friend, Don Lusk (1913 - 2018), and have remained with the Lusk family until they were recently consigned with Heritage. Wow! Needless to say, these are VERY RARE pieces of original artwork from a Disney Legend who, had he lived long enough, would have surely be known today as Walt's 11th "Old Man!" The cards have light toning, with a minor paperclip rust spot on one (away from the image) and all with minor handling wear. Very Good condition. From the Don Lusk Archives.
