Description

Fred Moore - "Freddie's Girl" Original Study (c. 1940s). Offered in this lot is a rare look at how Disney Legend Fred Moore (1911 - 1952) crafted his famous "Freddie's Girls" with a spectacular trimmed study! Moore began working at Disney in 1930 at the young age of 19 as an inbetweener, though he quickly moved up to animator with his appealing, charismatic drawings and contributed to beloved shorts, feature films, and even the 1940 redesign of Mickey Mouse. Moore's "Freddie's Girls" were as sought-after at the studio as his incredible animation and the graphite with conté crayon study in this lot was created to practice for a request he received. The page features two poses, one of full figure woman in a striking orange dress and green bows and another full figure of the woman (now nude) from the back. They showcase the charm, innocence, and alluring beauty Moore strived for in each of his "Freddie's Girls" at about 6.25'' x 9.5'' combined on the trimmed 10.75'' x 11.5'' page. The study was originally in the personal archive of another Disney Legend Ollie Johnston (1912 - 2008) and prints of similar drawings in his 1981 co-authored book Disney Animation The Illusion of Life are included in the lot as reference. Good condition overall with light edge and handling wear, faint age-related toning, and a minor border tear.
From the Disney Legend Inductee Andreas Deja Collection.
