Flip the Frog Animation Drawings Group of 15 (Ub Iwerks/Celebrity Pictures, c. 1930-32).
Ub Iwerks (1901 - 1971) was the man responsible for the look of Walt Disney's earliest cartoons, and has been credited with the designs of both Oswald the Rabbit and Mickey Mouse. Ub animated Steamboat Willie and several other early Disney shorts entirely by himself, but by 1930, he ventured out under his own name. Flip the Frog was the star of the first series from this new studio, and here is a collection of rare concept and production drawings from various Flip shorts. Of special interest here are two full-figure graphite drawings of Flip (figure sizes are 3.5" and 3"), plus five drawings of Flip's mule Orace in action, as seen in a number of different shorts. There are also several rough concept sketches (some perhaps from Ub's own hand), in graphite and color pencil, all on 12 field 2-peghole animation paper. A few pieces have inaccurate titles written on the back, and one page has art on both sides. The paper shows minor toning with handling/edge wear and some staining; overall condition is Good.
