Description

Fantasia "The Pastoral Symphony" Centaur and Centaurette Original Courvoisier Concept/Layout Drawing (Walt Disney, 1940). This original vintage concept/layout from Fantasia's "The Pastoral Symphony" elegantly stages a Centaur and Centaurette amid the mythic Arcadia of the sequence. Rendered in graphite with delicate color-pencil accents and touches of white paint on 12-field animation paper, it defines camera angle, character spacing, and action- the visual blueprint that guided animators and background painters. "The Pastoral Symphony" famously used airy palettes to conjure an ancient Greek world of centaurs, pegasi families, fauns, cupids, unicorns, and Olympian gods gathering to honor Bacchus. Animation on the segment was led by studio greats Fred Moore, Ward Kimball, Eric Larson, Art Babbitt, and Ollie Johnston. Matted to 19" x 14", the sheet bears the "WDP" stamp associated with Courvoisier linking the artwork to the San Francisco gallery that first elevated Disney production cels and drawings to fine art. A rare, display-ready artifact from Disney's golden age. Condition is vintage Good, with toning, light surface wear, and margin pinholes consistent with studio use and age.
