Description
Fantasia "Night on Bald Mountain/Ave Maria" Chernabog Animation Drawing (Walt Disney, 1940). Chernabog stands tall above us in all his menacing glory in this jaw-dropping original animation drawing created for the "Night on Bald Mountain" sequence of Fantasia. He's impressively large as he stands with his clawed hands raised high above his head, measuring 7" x 10.5"! One of the most memorable and terrifying villains in Disney history, this popular character was brought to life by Disney Legend inductee Bill Tytla (1904 - 1968). Bela Lugosi was famously brought to the Disney studio as a reference for the character, but Bill Tytla preferred the acted interpretation of Wilfred Jackson (director of the sequence) and used him instead as a live action reference. This spectacular drawing is rendered in graphite with colored pencil highlights on 16 field, 5-peghole Management Bond animation paper. The image can be found at about the 1:50:58 mark of Fantasia. The number 391 is written in the lower right corner, and two pegholes are reinforced. The condition of this piece is Very Good, with some handling and edge wear.Auction Info
