Description

Fantasia "Dance of the Hours" Hyacinth Hippo, Ben Ali Gator, and the Dancers of the Night Original Courvoisier Layout Drawing (Walt Disney, 1940). This original vintage layout from Fantasia's "Dance of the Hours" stages Hyacinth Hippo with Ben Ali Gator and his entourage of alligators at the height of their courtly-comic pursuit. Ben Ali-leader of the Dancers of the Night-casts off his cape and attempts to woo Hyacinth with bravura strength; she rebuffs, teases, and draws him into a flirtatious pas de deux that hurtles toward the sequence's grand finale. Rendered in graphite with light color-pencil accents on 12-field animation paper, the drawing precisely maps camera angle, character spacing, and action cues-the visual blueprint animators and background painters followed to time gags, entrances, and choreography. Matted to 19" x 14", the layout bears the customary "WDP" stamp associated with Courvoisier pieces and includes a Courvoisier certificate beneath the mat, linking it to the San Francisco gallery that first elevated Disney production material to fine-art status. A scarce artifact from Disney's golden age, combining lyrical staging with impeccable draftsmanship. The lot is in vintage Good condition, with toning, edge wear, and margin pinholes consistent with studio use and age-a graceful highlight for Fantasia and Courvoisier collectors alike.
