DescriptionEgyptian Melodies Silly Symphony Production Background (Walt Disney, 1931). Here is one of the earliest hand-painted Disney Studios production backgrounds we've ever seen. Egyptian Melodies was a black and white Silly Symphonies cartoon starring the Spider from Midnight in the Toy Shop (1930) and The Spider and the Fly (1931); in this short, he cavorts around the Sphinx and pyramids until the mummies come to life to scare him away. This amazing painting showcases the interior of the tomb, mummy cases and interior wall paintings, with a delicate white cobweb in the tomb opening. The background is marked "Frenchy" under the mat, possibly painted by Frenchy De Tremandan. Gouache and watercolor on paper, matted and framed with glass. The mat opening measures 11.25" x 8"; the overall framed size is 17" x 13.5". Fine condition.
