Description

Dr Syn, Alias the Scarecrow Preliminary Poster Study Original Art by Paul Wenzel (Walt Disney, 1963). This is a rare preliminary study for a European movie poster for Walt Disney's Dr Syn, Alias the Scarecrow. While originally conceived and edited for Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color TV series in 1963. The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh was re-edited for a British theatrical release before the American television debut. Retitled Dr Syn, Alias the Scarecrow, the British theatrical version was released on a double bill with The Sword in the Stone and ran during the 1963 Christmas season. This version was shown in Europe as well as Central and South America through 1966. This is the original study for the poster, rendered in pastel on 16" x 22" paper which is affixed to a 22.5" x 26" board by Disney's 42-year veteran illustrator, Paul Wenzel. Wenzel worked in Disney's Motion Picture Advertising Department creating over 100 theatrical movie posters and advertisement artwork. In fact, he created nearly every Disney movie poster prior to 2000. So, there's a very good chance you have seen his work! Movie posters have long been valued by collectors but, to get the original preliminary study for a poster is exceedingly rare. The artwork exhibits mild edge wear and smudging with tape residue in the borders. Overall, Very Good condition.
From the Master Disney Artist/Art Director Mr. Paul Wenzel Archive.
