Description

Don the Dog Animation Drawing (Van Buren, c. 1932). Stars of Van Buren Studios' "Aesop's Fables" line of shorts, tall cat Waffles and short dog Don eventually morphed into a human duo known as Tom and Jerry (this was years before MGM's classic cat and mouse cartoons). But even after Tom and Jerry came along, there was at least one more Waffles and Don short, Magic Art (1932). The characters were slightly redesigned for this John Foster-directed cartoon, with Don taking on more of a "Toby the Pup" look. Here's an original 12 field 2-peghole animation drawing of that redesigned version of Don, possibly from that rare short (there are no identifying marks on the paper, just the drawing, and we could find no videos online from Magic Art). Great full-figure image of this throwback to an earlier time, measuring about 2.5" tall. Condition is Very Good, with minor handling wear and small smudges away from the image.
