Don Donald Donald Duck Animation Drawing by Tom Wood (Walt Disney, 1937). Disney's first theatrical short to star Donald Duck was Don Donald, released on 1/9/37; it also starred Donald's girlfriend Donna. Good Housekeeping did a featured article on Don Donald in the January 1937 issue. This is an original drawing by Tom Wood used for that issue. It can also be seen on page 113 of the book Walt Disney's Mickey and the Gang - Classic Stories in Verse (Vintage Magazine Art 1934 - 1955) by David Gerstein. Tom Wood (1887 - 1940) began with Disney in 1932 and was head of the Publicity Department until his death in 1940. Original artwork by Tom Wood is highly coveted. This composition is done in graphite with red pencil on Management Bond and trimmed to 12" x 10". This superlative image measures 4" - 6". This would have been used for the second image in the Good Housekeeping page. Minor handling and edge wear; otherwise this piece is in Very Good condition.Auction Info
