    Description

    Dizzy Divers Popeye and Olive Oyl Animation Drawing (Max Fleischer, 1935). You'd think by now, Popeye would have realized you can't take Bluto's word about anything! He and Bluto, both owners of deep sea-diving companies, have agreed to pool resources and split a sunken treasure 50/50. Of course, Bluto tries to take advantage of Popeye's honesty by racing to find the treasure first. Here, Olive helps Popeye slip into his "diving gear", consisting of wading boots and his oilskin jacket. This particular drawing can be seen at the 2:56 mark in the film. This short, released on July 26, 1935, was the 24th produced in the long-lived series. It was so early in the run, that Olive's voice had not even been finalized yet! Dave Fleischer directs and Willard Bowsky and Harold Walker provided animation. With a troubled history and an undignified closure, the Fleischer studio, much celebrated for its artistry, left behind precious little in the way of surviving production art. All artwork from original 1930s productions is considered extremely rare. Popeye and Olive are depicted together here on 10 field 3-peghole animation paper. Both are rendered in graphite and colored pencil. With very minor handling, drawing is in Fine condition.
