Disneyland Haunted Mansion "Quicksand" Stretching Room Embellished Portrait Print (Walt Disney, c. 1970s). "The Haunted Mansion" opened in New Orleans Square on 8/8/69. It boasted a population of "999 Happy Haunts." This dark ride had people seeing the attraction in "Doom Buggies." The "Ghost Host" of this attraction was the familiar basso profundo voice of Paul Frees. The tour of this mansion begins in the famous octagon stretching room. As the ghost talks to you, the seemingly quaint wall portraits "stretch" to reveal horrific scenarios. The famous four stretching room paintings were designed by Disney Legend Inductee and one of Walt's original "Nine Old Men," Mr. Marc Davis. The Haunted Mansion Stretching Room paintings were all hand-painted from 1969 to 1972; after that, for the second generation Stretching Room, prints were made on canvas. Each print was hand-embellished or glazed to give a hand-painted appearance. This is a rare full-color second edition Stretching Room print on canvas that was embellished/glazed. It reveals the trio of gentlemen who exhibit increasingly worried expressions the further the picture "stretches" in front of the Disneyland guests in the "Happy Haunting Ground." The portrait exhibits wear and tear from the mechanism that unrolled it hundreds of times a day. Horizontal creases are evident and some rust-colored discoloration is near the "Quicksand" sign. There is some handling and embellishment wear on the bottom, with a tiny tear in the center. This piece is magnificently framed to an amazing size of 117" x 47". This is one of the most desirable Haunted Mansion pieces there is, an actual Park-used stretching room painting canvas print. Frame is sold as-is, print condition is Good.
