    Crusades Original Illustration by Paul Wenzel (c.1980-90s).
    This is a terrific painting of a battle from the Crusades by Paul Wenzel. The artwork was originally created for a book or magazine about the Crusades. The Crusades were a series of religious and political wars fought between 1096 and 1291 for control of the Holy Land. Paul Wenzel is an artist best known for his career with The Walt Disney Company, creating illustrations for movie posters and retail merchandise. Throughout the 1960s Wenzel was also an illustrator for science-fiction magazines creating covers and interior art for titles such as Space Travel, Galaxy Science Fiction; Worlds of Tomorrow; and Fantastic Stories of Imagination. In 2000, Wenzel retired from Disney after 42 years to reside in Prescott, Arizona and pursue his fine art paintings of animals and American Indians. His work is exhibited by the Mountain Spirit Gallery in Prescott. The artwork featured in this lot was rendered in gouache on illustration board measuring 24" x 13" with an image area of 22" x 8.75". The painting is signed by the artist. Very Good condition.
