Description

Complete Story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Seven-Dwarf Preliminary Illustration by Disney Legend Manuel Gonzales (Walt Disney/Harper and Brothers, 1937). "'Look! It's only Dopey,' they cried." All seven of the dwarfs appear in this rare preliminary illustration, almost home from a long day in the mines when they discover the lights are still on in their cottage. The beautifully crafted preliminary illustration is rendered on 12 field 5-peghole animation paper for page 35 of the 1937 storybook that accompanied the release of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The illustration was created by Disney Legend Manuel Gonzales (1913 - 1993). One of 33 selected Rockefeller Center applicants to help the studio finish their first animated feature in 1936, Gonzales worked on a variety of comic strips and publicity art. His most notable contributions were penciling and inking the successful Mickey Mouse comic strip from 1946 to 1981 and the Scamp comic strip from 1956 to 1981, receiving a "Mousecar" award from Disney himself in 1966 for his efforts. A beautiful image that nearly fills the page, the piece features a few small notes and is in Very Good condition with light edge and handling wear, faint age-related toning, and pinholes in corners.
