Clock Cleaners Goofy Animation Drawing (Walt Disney, 1937).
This cartoon was selected as the 27th best cartoon of all time in Jerry Beck's landmark 1994 book The 50 Greatest Cartoons. Mickey, Donald, and Goofy must get to work cleaning a large clock tower in the middle of a busy city. The whole process goes just about as smoothly as you'd expect... Ben Sharpsteen directs this short, released just weeks before Disney's first feature, Snow White. Future feature director Woolie Reitherman contributed animation. This drawing occurs near the 6:30 point in the film. Goofy has been struck on the head by one of the clock's life-sized mechanized figures. Oblivious to the danger all around him, he wears a ridiculous expression - it is almost impossible to watch the scene without laughing. In a daze, he wanders around the clock tower, hundreds of feet above the ground. Very unsteady on his feet, he balances precariously on his tip toes, and leans back over the edge of the clock tower - but all his flailing around actually keeps him from falling over. Rendered in graphite and colored pencil on 12 field animation paper, Goofy measures 5.5" x 5.5". The drawing has been matted and framed under Plexiglass with a mat opening of 10.5" x 8.5" in a 17" x 15" frame. Frame is sold as-is. In Fine condition.
