Cinderella Prince Charming Animation Drawings Group of 3 (Walt Disney, 1950).
Cinderella was the 12th animated feature film from Walt Disney Pictures which is largely credited as the film that saved the studio. Cinderella was a tremendous critical and commercial success upon release and reinvigorated the studio when they were nearing bankruptcy after a loss of over $4 million from recent box office failures. By 1950, the Animation Board at Disney, which had been established in the 1940s to help with the management of the animation department, had settled down to nine supervising animators. Although they were still in their thirties, they were jokingly referred by Walt Disney as the "Nine Old Men" after President Franklin D. Roosevelt's denigration of the Supreme Court. The principal animators included Les Clark, Marc Davis, Ollie Johnston, Milt Kahl, Ward Kimball, Eric Larson, John Lounsbery, Frank Thomas, and Wolfgang Reitherman. Cinderella is considered one of the best animated films ever made, as selected by the American Film Institute and was inducted into the Library of Congress National Film Registry in 2018. This is a superb sequence of drawings featuring Prince Charming. Even though his named is never revealed in the film he is commonly referred to as Prince Charming. The drawings were rendered in graphite on 12 field 3-peghole animation paper and noted as 67, 77, and 91. Drawing 67 has normal edge wear, 77 has timing sheet notes in the upper right of the sheet and corner folds. Drawing 91 has a large fold/crease on the right side of the piece away from the image. All three have age-related toning. Otherwise, the artwork is in Good condition.
