Description
Chuck Jones "Bugs Bunny and Bull" Watercolor Painting Original Art (Warner Brothers, c. 1990s). "What a gulli-bull!" says Bugs Bunny in the 1953 Looney Tunes short Bully for Bugs. From the hand of Animation Legend Chuck Jones comes this magnificent original watercolor with graphite painting of Matador Bugs confidently facing off against the angry bull Toro, seen as a shadow behind our hero of a hare. After tunneling to what he believed to be the "Coachella Valley and the big Carrot Festival, therein," Bugs finds himself right in the middle of a Mexican bullfight... he shoulda took that left turn in Albuquerque! Chuck Jones (1911 - 2002) began his long career in cartoons in 1933, assisting Tex Avery, Friz Freleng, Bob Clampett, and Bob McKimson... who could ask for better teachers in the Art of Animation? Chuck soon found himself in charge of his own crew of artists and writers, churning out hit after hit for Warner Brothers. He moved on to MGM, where he won an Academy Award for his 1965 short, The Dot and the Line; he also worked on Tom and Jerry shorts, as well as feature-length films like The Phantom Tollbooth. In 1966, he worked with Ted "Dr. Seuss" Geisel to make the perennial holiday classic How the Grinch Stole Christmas for CBS-TV. He formed his own studio in 1970, and continued to make films for television, even finding time to create his own newspaper comic strip, Crawford. Rather than simply retire after a lifetime of great achievements in animation, Mr. Jones turned his direction toward making great limited-edition cels and original watercolor paintings of scenes from his many classic cartoons. The cels all sold out quickly, but these watercolors are each unique, hand-painted works of art. This one is on heavy watercolor paper with deckled edges; the overall image size is approximately 9.25" x 10", and Jones has hand-signed it in the lower right edge of the image. The art is matted with an opening of 11.75" x 16", with an overall mat size of 18" x 22". A Letter of Authenticity signed by Chuck's daughter Linda is included. Any original art by Chuck Jones is highly desirable; add in the enormous popularity of Bugs Bunny to the equation, and you have something very special with this original painting! Condition is Fine with light handling.Auction Info
