Cartoon Illustration Book Original Art and Hand-Colored Print Group (Max Fleischer, c. 1930s). Want to know how to draw Fleischer style? We have you covered in this mind-blowing set of twelve full-page "how to" drawings by Fleischer Studios artists Tom Johnson and Berny Wolf (credited here as "Bern E. Wolf"), plus the cover illustration, for 13 original pieces of artwork. These were done as a pitch for a mass-produced instruction book that, alas, appears to have never been completed or published. The artwork is beautifully produced in ink on sheets of Bristol board, with an approximately per-page image size of 12.5" x 9". Subjects include Heads, Hands, Feet, Body, Action, Expression, Shading, Lettering, and more, all done in a classic 1930s cartoon style. This impressed cartoon historian Jerry Beck so much that he referred to it as a "holy grail" item in a 2008 online installment of Cartoon Brew. In addition to the original art, there is a hand-colored print of the cover illustration, plus a full set of negative prints on paper, and two positive prints (the cover, mounted onto heavy board, and a glossy print of "Shading and Pen Lines page, which has been linen-backed), plus a typed letter to an agent regarding the book, dated May 27, 1933, and signed by Johnson and Wolf. One of the most impressive items concerning 1930s cartooning we've seen! Very Good overall condition. From the Eric Sack Collection.
