Carl Barks "A 1934 Belchfire Runabout" Donald Duck Preliminary Drawing (Walt Disney/Another Rainbow, 1984). Donald Duck's 50th birthday was in part celebrated by a great painting of Donald in his car (license plate 313), with Huey, Dewey, and Louie riding along, as they enter the "Nostalgia Days Old Car Rally." Here is preliminary drawing #7 done for that painting, a Central Vignette with just Donald, the boys, and the car, minus the background detail. The art is in red pencil on velum paper, with an approximate image area of 13" x 16"; it's matted to an overall size of 21" x 25.75". This piece was displayed in the Gottfried Helnwein German Museum tours in the 1990s, in a landmark retrospective exhibition titled "Wer (Who) ist Carl Barks?" A certificate of Authenticity signed by Carl Barks is included. The image has faded somewhat from display, and the velum paper is a little wavy, so we're calling the condition Very Good, but it's still a wonderful piece that shows the mastery of Carl Barks' penciling.
