Description
Bob Zoell "Mickey Mouse" Sketch and David Willardson "Elvis Presley" Print Group (undated). A rare scrap of art by Disney-inspired Los Angeles-based fine artist Bob Zoell featuring a "dissected" Mickey Mouse is one of two items in this lot. Mr. Zoell is well-known in California for his "counterfeit" parking signs with cryptic messages which he installed on LA streets; before this, he was an advertising artist. His work has been published in The New Yorker, Esquire, Playboy, and other notable publications. This unusual 1970s-80s era piece has been deliberately made to l,ook "slap-dash," with torn pieces of black tape holding the torn-edge art to a backing board. Art is in color pencils on onionskin, with a large "For Ed & Elaine" signed inscription on the art, and a series of phrases hand-written on both the art and backing board, making the backer part of the art image. It's framed with glass for an overall size of 21.75" x 11.25". Also included is an Elvis Presley print by artist David Willardson, a regular Disney illustrator. The print is framed with glass for an overall size of 20" x 14.5". The frames are sold as-is. The Zoell art is in Very Good condition with minor handling, while the Willardson print is in Very Good to Fine condition with light handling.More information about Bob Zoell.
