Description

Boat Builders Mickey Mouse Animation Drawing (Walt Disney, 1938).
Walt Disney's short subject film, Boat Builders was directed by Ben Sharpsteen and released on 2/25/38. In this short, Mickey Mouse and his friends Donald Duck and Goofy attempt to build a boat, which is made from fold-out parts. The instructions simply say "All You Do Is Put It Together" and "Even A Child Can Do It." They name their new boat Queen Minnie and set out on their maiden voyage which turns out to be their last when the boat collapses as she sets sail, thanks to Minnie Mouse hitting the champagne bottle to christen the boat just a little too hard. We have a wonderful production drawing of Mickey removing the instructions from his red overalls. You will see this image at the 1:29 mark in Boat Builders. This one-of-a-kind piece was hand-drawn using graphite and colored pencil on 12 field 5-peghole animation paper. The image area measures approximately 4" x 4". The piece has slight toning of the paper due to aging; otherwise, the artwork is in Very Good condition.
