Bill Plympton The Simpsons Season 19 DVD Box Set Animation Drawings Sequence of 6 (Fox, 2019). Award-winning animator Bill Plympton was invited to animate the splash screen menus and illustrate the packaging for The Simpsons season 19 DVD box set. A favorite of Simpsons creator Matt Groening, Mr. Plympton holds the distinction of serving as guest director on the show more times than any other, having produced six opening couch gag scenes. Over his storied career he has contributed original art for publications such as the New York Times, Rolling Stone, and National Lampoon as well as animating dozens of independent cartoon shorts. Presented here is a sequence/setup of six original animation drawings by Bill Plympton used in the animated splash screen menu on disc #3 of this box set. In this scene the family car is launched into the mouth of a dinosaur where it tumbles through until exiting into a water park. These drawings appear just before that exit and include both the animated characters as well as background elements. Each is masterfully rendered in colored pencil on 12 field 3-peghole paper and three are signed by the artist in the lower right. Mr. Plympton's animations are distinctive in their illustrative style because he films his color drawings rather than painted cels. It's a wonderful sequence of the whole Simpson family as only the mind of Bill Plympton could envision. The drawings show minor handling and fold creases. Condition is Very Good.
