Description

Betty Boop Original Character Drawing (Fleischer Studios, c. 1930s). A terrific vintage Betty Boop drawing. This is believed to be the concept artwork used for a theatrical lobby standee for the Jazz age flapper. Created by Max Fleischer, with help from animators including Grim Natwick, Betty was featured in 90 theatrical cartoons between 1930 and 1939. Although she was toned down in the mid-1930s as a result of the Hays Code to appear demurer, Betty Boop became one of the best-known and most popular cartoon characters in the world. This extraordinary drawing was rendered in graphite on 10" x 12.5" illustration paper. The artwork has been professionally restored using museum quality backing. Betty stands full-figure at 8" tall. Included is a copy of a photo featuring Helen Kane and Max Fleischer with the Betty Boop standee. Condition is Fine.
